Opinion, commentary and humour on fantasy English Premier League football, the English Premier League, Major League Soccer and international football. From people who should know... better.
Nice enough goal but to be honest when the ball sits up like that I'd fancy myself to bang one in over the keeper's head... You always get a good dip on your shot with those :)
Wow. Didn't realize that there was this much dissatisfaction with Demps' play for the national team. I know he can drift out of games or be lost on the wing but he's more often than not come up with goals - big goals - for us as well.
I guess I share your frustration to a point, but only to a point.
@Jeremy - definitely not dissatisfaction for me, i think he's played well no matter where they put him on the field. some games he disappears, but seems like one of a few that has passion and fire. i just see him open up more when he's played forward...
@all anonymous: Um last time I checked Dempsey scored against #1 ranked Spain and top 3 ranked Brazil in the Confederations Cup, both teams put out their first squad, enough said, get off his back. You don't sound like an American supporter with those kinds of statements. Give me a break.
It's probably the same concept for Beckham. He looks like he isnt trying that much or having impact for Galaxy, but once he is in national team from sub, or for Milan, people can totally see the difference. Its not about those players guys, its about the quality around them, allow them to show their maximum potential.
i have always said that dempsey should play the middle, right behind the strikers and donovan should be put out on the right where dempsey plays. this would give the US more possession in final third and give the national team more speed on the right wing. donovan can cross to dempsey. donovan has flashes of brilliance but is not conistent. if the middle is packed dempsey can unlock it better.
dempsey is a polarizing figure... he does come up with big goals, but i've often found myself yelling at him for his unimpressive work rate, especially in the second half of games. maybe it's a stamina thing.

ReplyDeleteNice shot, Deuce. Why don't you bring it like that when you lace 'em up for the stars and stripes?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: guess thats why your playing english premier football eh?
ReplyDeleteWe'll need a couple of those this summer.
ReplyDeleteHodgson should bring him off the bench more often. He came on playing angry like last season when Roy did the same thing and Demps responded.
ReplyDelete@gman26 couldn't agree more
ReplyDeletecome on dempsey..do ur job this weekend for me!!
ReplyDeleteusmnt needs to play him forward more, especially with davies out. clint seems to excel when played further up..
ReplyDeleteDear Deuce:
ReplyDeleteCut out the bulls$%t flicks and tricks you normally try pulling on USMNT duty and play like you do for Fulham.
Love,
Americans everywhere

ReplyDeletemy usa jersey is dempsey if that says anything
ReplyDeleteMine would be Dempsey as well.
ReplyDeleteHe does play better for Fulham, but it could be the caliber of players around him.

ReplyDeleteSupporting the USMNT doesn't necessarily make someone blind.
ReplyDeleteHe played well against Spain and Brazil. He plays well for the USMNT...
He just plays better, more consistently for Fulham. Then again, it is his club team.

ReplyDeletei have that feeling more with the rest of the team, especially mama's boy landon, than dempsey.
