Two and out?

Good news:
The club is delighted to announce that tonight’s Premier League fixture with Blackburn Rovers will go ahead.

The club has received praise from all quarters for the tireless work that has taken place - day and night - over the weekend to ensure all areas and major walkways around the ground are free of ice and snow.

Following a meeting with the city council, the police and club officials this morning, the green light has now been given to play the game, and only a serious deterioration in the weather conditions in the next few hours will put the game at risk.
---
Wigan Athletic’s home match against Aston Villa became the sixth Premier League fixture to fall victim to the big freeze when their undersoil heating failed on Friday. Soon after, the postponement of this afternoon’s clash between West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers reduced this weekend’s 10 matches to just three, with tomorrow night’s game between Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers in the balance.

Manchester City's game at home to Blackburn Rovers tomorrow night is still scheduled to go ahead although conditions on roads and paths around Eastlands on Saturday were bad.

Crap. Keep your fingers crossed... if you can still feel them.

I'm a bit miffed that I held on to Bily (@4.77) throughout his suspension but he appears to have lost his place to Donovan. Maybe you Yanks can help me; I though Donovan played as striker? You think Bily will take a back seat?

  2. This is going to be my worst wk ever.... 7pts

  3. I have Bily but at 7 and change and I'm ready to give up on him.
    1. His value is around 8 so I don't lose A LOT of his value
    2. Donovan was taking kicks. BUT I think Donovan played more up front with Saha. Once Saha gets hurt, Toffees will not have a quality striker. Everton is actually pretty crowded in midfield with Gosling and Osman Cahill, Peinnar, Bily, Fellaini. I'd rather not risk it of Bily maybe not playing, so I'll move to possibly Carrick this week.

    - Mikey Owen anyone?! I probably wouldn't even gamble on him, but its a thought. But SAF did put on Mame Biram Diouf at the end of the Birmingham game, so who knows!

  5. Donovan played on the right on Tuesday. Moyes said in the post-match interview that he was very impressed with the match he had, and he looked really dangerous taking kicks. As such, yes he would threaten Bily. However, Moyes also said that they haven't decided the best way to use Donovan yet, and one possibility was up top playing off the striker.
For those unfamiliar with Donovan, he now mainly plays wide with the US and as a striker in MLS.

  9. Donovan is kind of a classic pocket striker or attacking mid, though versatile enough to pass on the wing or up front against lesser competition. I'm kind of worried about his ability to fit into Everton's system in the long run because of that, as he's not really great out on the touchline delivering crosses. The weakest part of his game is delivery, and he's best turning inside and attacking people with the ball at his feet and playing quick 1-2s. Also due to that, if Moyes knows what he's doing at all(and he does) Donovan won't be taking kicks with any consistency in the long run. He's just not a good striker of the ball on a consistent basis.

He's definitely good enough to be in Everton's rotation, but I'm not sure whose time he takes or whether he's a permanent fixture. He's about the same kind of player as Pienaar only less physical and maybe a little quicker on the ball, and Bily obviously has better delivery and dead ball skills. I would say Osman, who I've always thought was pretty mediocre, but isn't he the captain now?

J.Dunn - I don't know, Donovan delivered a couple of great crosses in the game...including an assist off a corner. He does seem to play good on the right wing though and turns inside really good, that would allow Tim Cahill to play just behind Saha. Too early to say but from what I saw in that Arsenal-Everton game, Donovan looks up to the Premier standards.

  11. And some of those crosses were from corners. He took kicks. Be still my heart!

  12. J. Dunn - P. Neville is the club captain. During his injury absence, Moyes rotated the captaincy, during which Osman, Cahill, Yobo and others have been made one-off captains.

Would you drop Bily at 4.77?

How come Garteh Bale has gone up in price from mid 2 to mid 5 despite not playing?! Wish i'd kept him in now. 45 from the week relying totally on Saturdays games, hoping city match gets called off tonight to dent my rivals!

I think its just unlucky (or lucky, depending on perspective) that bales price went up. After a player hasnt played for a while Yahoo resets their price from whatever it is, high or low, to the standard "new player" price - I think this is what has happened with bale.

The City game should be fine. The snow and ice was finally melting here in Manchester yesterday and the temperature hasn't dropped below freezing yet today. Fingers crossed!

On the Bale topic, I think his price went up because of Supply and Demand. Lots of people dropped him this past weekend cause he wasn't playing but after the Saturday results, all those people got him back. Correct me if I'm wrong...I think it's shaddy myself. But then again, I was one of those people that BD'd him @2.80.

I'd also argue that David Moyes didn't bring Donovan in for a meere 3 month deal to let him sit on the bench. God I hope Yahoo! adds him to the Team selection soon...they're just so slow to do that.
