Nasri blow for Gunners

Nasri blow for Gunners - Yahoo! Eurosport
Arsenal were dealt another injury blow this afternoon with the news that France midfielder Samir Nasri would be out of action for around a month with a knee problem...

Arsene Wenger must also now do without the versatile Nasri - who often came inside to cover for captain Cesc Fabregas in central midfield - for probably the next five games, which also include the start of the Champions League campaign in mid-September.

A club statement read: "Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri will today undergo minor surgery on his knee following a meniscal injury sustained during the match against Liverpool on Sunday.

"Nasri, who has been in impressive form, will be out of action for a month."
Well, it's back to the drawing board for me. I was planning on selling Martin Petrov to get Nasri so that I could afford Vermaelen in defence. However, now I may only be able to afford Sagna. I was worried that Sagna would sit out the home match as he did so often at the end of last season, but if Eboue is likely needed in midfield, maybe it's a safe bet.

This injury also makes Cesc's return to the first team even more vital for the Gunners. I couldn't find any information on his status yesterday, but will keep looking as the week progresses and the visit from Blackpool gets closer.

  1. Does the increased necessity of Cesc to make it into the squad diminish or increase the value of Arshavin and Wilkshere?

  2. With Djourou still injured, will we see Gibbs in central defense? If Song returns, could he drop back there?

  3. Djourou and Song are fighting to be fit.

I was wondering if Arshavin can move infield. He more dangerous there than he is wandering around the left. There's also Rosicky and Walcott. The latter could even come in as a second striker, so he's my early candidate.

  4. if song is fit, he will go back to defense. diaby will stay in his secondary anchor position. i think wilshire stays next to diaby. now they need cesc or a cesc replacement. i want to pick up cesc, but will not do it until i have 100% guarantee that he will start.

  5. I feel that Wenger should have maybe paid some money into luring some of the German midfield to the Emirates, i.e. Mesut Özil I see their style of play fitting in very well at Arsenal....in the meantime Arshavin NEEDS to bring something concise to the table and fast!

  6. ozil will be a better player playing and learning under Wenger, for the next 5 years. than he will learning from Mourinho for the next 2 years, then other coaches, 1 year at a time, like Real likes to do.
Arshavin, did well, in a 4-4-2. i do not ever pick him because of that. have you guys watched Diego, at Juventus, same thing. they changed the setup before he got there and he has not fit in.

  7. I can see Bastian Schweinsteiger joining them in the near future...I can see him bringing a lot of good things to that team.

  8. if schweinsteiger joins them, they will be the best team in the world. wenger is constantly looking for a defensive midfielder, who can add to the offense, to add to Song's stout defensive abilities. Diaby, Denilson, etc. are not anywhere near Schweinsteiger.
