The Premier League big boys (now including Citeh) are still adding revenue despite the global economic woes. What this article doesn't discuss (and I think it should) is how things are going for the less famous clubs around Europe. We know about the issues at places like Pompey or Crystal Palace but I'd be very interested to learn more about how mid-table clubs like Everton, Aston Villa, or Newcastle are doing in light of the economy. How about the equivalent clubs in Spain where the broadcast rights are handled differently than they are in England where everyone in the Prem gets a roughly equivalent piece of the TV rights pie? Yes, these are the things I think about when I'm not particularly interested in International Friendlies.
Any thoughts? Does anyone care? Or is it just me?

I love reading about the financial status of footy teams. From Here, it seems like ALOT of money is being poured into these clubs with not alot being brought in.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'll ever understand the finances in Spain, seems complex, but I read an article I think from Yahoo where Torres going for 50 mil is a steal based on the revenue he'll now bring in on jersey sales

Interesting, but revenue is only one side of the profit equation. Has anyone seen any data for the costs associated with running a club?
ReplyDeleteLike G-man said, they only talk about revenue and not profit, so they're basically meaningless. Especially when out of United's revenue that has to service millions of pounds worth of probably interest free loans to the Glazer family.
