Injuries and Suspensions

Here's a summary of the news that can be found behind the links above:

Arsenal: The important mention is that Gibbs is fit and Santos is "short of fitness" which leaves fantasy managers with a fairly certain, very inexpensive defender playing at home against competition that has yet to score this season. That isn't a guarantee of anything but it certainly isn't a bad thing. The downside is that there is no indication of whether Benayoun will start or not. With Gervinho still out but Walcott back to fitness, it is likely down to Benayoun and Arshavin for the final spot supporting RvP up top while Coquelin and Ramsey work with Arteta in the middle three.

Manchester City: As has been speculated, Nasri will be able to go with a cast on his broken hand. That doesn't mean he WILL play but as good at the City attack looked against Spurs last time out, I have a hard time believing that he won't be fielded. In other news, Gareth Barry is out but Micah Richards looks to be recovered from his hamstring issue.

Manchester United: It looks like Chicharito is healthy again and looks to start opposite Rooney. Vidic and Rafael are still out making it likely that Phil Jones continues alongside of Rio. A comment in the player picks post indicated that we should beware of Smalling given the number of starts he has accumulated and the upcoming European tests for United. There is no indication that SAF might rest Smalling and Smalling hasn't shown any tendency toward injuries in his young career but I figured it was worth throwing the possibility out there for everyone to ponder given that United are playing away from home and there are some very inexpensive defenders playing at home (Boyata and Brown most notably).

Chelsea: Drogba is sidelined by that ugly hit to the head he took against Norwich so you'd have to imagine that Torres will get another chance to start justifying the insane amount of money spent to acquire him. In better news for Blues supporters, Cech, Luiz, and Sturridge are all back from injury, injury, and suspension respectively. No indication as to whether immediate fan favorite Juan Mata will get a start. Hard to justify using a forward spot on him without knowing for sure.

Fulham: No definitive word on JAR, only that Fulham would "assess his fitness", my guess is that he plays but it is obviously not a 100% certainty - tread carefully.

Other News: Gyan is out and Bendtner will start at home against Chelsea; Everton "hope Baines is ready to go" which means he's likely to take kicks and PKs; Bolton's new boys are ready to go but Stu Holden isn't fully fit; K2 and Parker are very likely to start while VDV, Sandro, Pienaar, and Gallas are all out for Spurs - as always, Ledley King is facing a fitness test; Matt Jarvis is not 100% certain to feature; West Brom face worries over both Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie who are both facing the dreaded late fitness test.

  5. @Greginho--

Even if he is put on the pitch as a late sub, Benayoun's returns should at least approach his cost. Very low risk selection that may enable other more expensive purchases.

  6. Yep, picking YB (along with Brown and Boyata) allowed me Rooney, Young, Aguero, Silva, Anelka, and Arteta.
