How is a 5-man midfield "revolutionary"? Especially when he'll do it to counter Everton's 5-man midfield.Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce is pondering a revolutionary change in formation at Everton on Saturday.Although the City chief does believe to an extent in the old saying 'never change a winning team', he also feels the need to start picking up points away from Eastlands has reached crisis point.
So, two of the stars of last weekend's win over West Ham - teenager midfielder Ishmael Miller and two-goal hero Georgios Samaras - are faced with the axe as Pearce looks to shore his side up with a five-man midfield, which will have Ousmane Dabo, Dietmar Hamann and Joey Barton occupying the central positions at Goodison Park.
Regardless, this tactic may bog down the game and restrict either side's chances.
Dabo is a YC machine - I predict at least one penalty/set piece goal for EVE as a result of this tactic...
ReplyDeleteagreed on dabo..
ReplyDeletehow about AJ - or is MAC defenders too much for him? though weaver is such a pathetic goalie that makes me wonder..
had nonda instead.. any thoughts?
Re: Weaver, he's hardly "pathetic". If you watched his saves on Henry at the beginning of the season, you'd know that he he's a respectable keeper.
ReplyDeleteRe: 2-5-3
If Psycho keeps Samaras, Dunne, Distin, in the lineup, and has Micah Richards starting in midfield, then it looks promising. It's apparent to everyone but Stuart that Dabo is an abysmal player.
3-5-2 is optimistic.
ReplyDeletei would figure a 4-5-1, with corradi alone and reyna and sinclair on the flanks.
hmmm looks like pardew has gone to tinkering as well, for the hammers' UEFA cup match, they started with harewood, tevez n carlton cole, then zamora, teddy and youssi came on in the 2nd half. So they have 6 "strikers", who starts this weekend?
ReplyDeleteIf you're actually considering playing any West Ham players right now, you're a brave, high-risk individual, in my book.
ReplyDeleteWest Ham strikers, a 'no' perhaps.
ReplyDeleteBut they have some good middies.
johnson, arteta, weaver, and possibly samaras+richards are prob the only ones to emerge with credit/fantasy points from a poor game.
ReplyDeletelucky point for psycho, thanks to (1) that extra 20 seconds from the ref and (2) an unfortunate tactical/defensive substitution from everton, who were again not playing well since the dizzy heights of the derby win
