Blog Favorite Ashley Young

Remember, you read it here first!
But my sleeper, dark horse, Nigel Reo-Coker pick of the season is Ashley Young. You gotta like that he's being called a "Thierry Henry" type player. He's small, but quick and strong. A winger that will play striker (listed as a middie... hello, the rules, anyone?), takes kicks, and scores goals.

  1. don't get all bent out of shape, SGD.

He's been compared to Henry mostly because he's a converted winger. But there's no doubting that Young is quality if not world class yet.

SGD is right but only because Young has not disappeared on the big stage like Henry has (because he hasn't - yet - made it to the big stage!)

Here's the monster week we were all waiting for. Let's hope there are a few more of those up ahead. If only everyone could play Fulham every week ;-)

Thanks to J and Neal for the 'talent scouting'

    Cheers

Speaking of Henry vs AY (or any other striker), If henry gets 2G + 1A he scores a monster 40-50 pts, any other mortal gets exactly the 25pts those stats are worth. But that's why Henry is worth $23 innit? So why did Highbury not sing Cashley's name again?

Definitely have to bow down to the blog for the heads-up on AY. Routledge, on the other hand, failed me miserably.

AY saved my arse this week (no thanks to another tinkerer SAF for plunging me in this plight by taking saha out in an easy game).

flip side: young's in a striking role n is often positioned further forward than any other player. so there go the chance to get the ball, cross and... phantom points. zero crosses all game!

re the previous comment, SAF dropped me in it too, why was Saha rested, he's got a week off now! It's getting to the point where I think twice before putting manu players in.

Ashley Young also saved my week, pity I also had Niemi in!

  10. Jim,

It's not polite to bang on a guy for not putting in more crosses when he's just scored 25pts on 2 goals and an assist! ;-)

And Devil, I think Jim hits on the point that separates TH from the crowd. If he gets 2 goals and an assist, he'll most likely have put a few other shots on target and won a few corners. He's the hub of a great offense (when it clicks) and he's just that good. He's Frank Lampard good.
