The most boring thing in the world is someone else's fantasy team.
But hey, you're already here so let me tell you about mine.
I hate my team this week. I really do. I also hate that this is the last round before a month-long break. That means that if I do poorly, I stew on it for a month.
I'm a fun person, honest! I just have certain failings as a human being. Focusing on the negative is one of those failings.
Now this may be even more annoying than hearing about my fantasy team... hearing the overall number two complain about their fantasy team. And for that, I apologize.
But hey, you're already here so let's talk about my fantasy team. As the man (whom we won't name) said, "If you're not careful, you may learn something before it's done".
I have:
- One injured player - Avery Patterson
- Two players who aren't starting for their teams - Kerry Abello and Rebeca Bernal
- One player who hasn't been a starter until a recent injury crisis - Sarah Schupansky
- Two players playing at Kansas City this week - Riley Tiernan and Kennedy Fuller
- Two players playing at San Diego, a game I'm attending, for whom I don't want to root - Rebeca Bernal and Rosemonde Kouassi
What I would like to do with my fantasy team — other than benching or selling seven players — is:
- Add another player from the Kansas City Current, preferably Michelle Cooper
- Add sure starters
- Get Esther, or at least be in a position to get Esther after the break when Gotham play at Chicago, then get the Spirit, Dash, and Utah at home in consecutive weeks.
I'm not against taking a hit (minus five points for additional transfers) but as this is the last weekend before the break, I'm not sure it's the best move. The transfer would pretty much have to pay off immediately.
One final (probably not final) consideration is that I only have four midfielders on the team. That's the minimum allowed, so any series of moves will have to at least keep that number.
So what's the best I can considering the above? It's spoiled by the banner photo above, but I think I need to bring in Taylor Huff for Kerry Abello. Huff is a midfielder who has started every match this season. Check. Check. Bay FC plays at Gotham FC this week, which isn't ideal. However, Gotham are going to be missing Jaelin Howell and Jess Carter, two keys to their defense. They may also be starting a rookie keeper in place of the always excellent Ann-Katrin Berger. It could be worse.
Huff is also $175,000 cheaper than Abello. That goes a long way towards funding Esther next "week".
Now that's better for this week. However, I'm still starting either Avery Patterson or Rebeca Bernal as my third defender (Ryan Williams and Lily Reale being locked in the XI). If I were to take a hit...
Welcome Jordyn Bugg to the team for Rebeca Bernal. Bugg has been another $75,000 sure starter to date. Check. Check. She also gets the coveted, "Who plays Utah?" boost.
Now how does the team look? I can bench Patterson, Fuller, and Tiernan and field what I think are eleven starters. I am still playing Rose Kouassi against my Wave, but they tend to play more five-goal games than one-nils, so maybe there's room there for fantasy points AND a Wave win.
And Kouassi would be on a short leash as I would now have the funds to go from her to Esther in August.
Thank you for going on this journey with me. Good luck, all. If you have any thoughts or ideas, or see something that I've missed, I'd love to hear from you in the comments or on Bluesky.
