Martin O'Neill Resigns as Manager of Aston Villa

Club Statement:
Aston Villa can confirm that Martin O'Neill has resigned as manager of the football club with immediate effect.

Kevin MacDonald, reserve team manager, has assumed the role of caretaker manager and will prepare the team for the opening Barclays Premier League game of the season against West Ham on Saturday at Villa Park.

Not sure how this impacts Villa's fantasy prospects (or the results of such sagas as Milner's transfer) but surely this is not the way to go into the season. More to come on this.

    My guess, and it's only a guess, is that Villa decided to sell Milner and we just haven't heard about it yet. Maybe O'Neill knows something we don't about the sale of Milner, and decided to leave Villa because they made him sell Milner to ManC.
    Very interesting turn of events. I'm not so sure about my team now, as I bought both Agbonlahor and Young. Should I sell them, or do you think Villa will win anyway?

  2. Neal's take - and we'll get to this in a roundtable - is that MON wasn't getting the Milner money to spend on new players.

  3. Villa ITKs reporting a big offer for Ashley Young was accepted by the board behind O'Neil's back over the weekend...we'll have to wait & see how true that is!

    @AM

    Then Albrighton looks like a decent pickup.

  5. There's also talk that Randy was going to accept an offer from Spurs for Ashley Young, and he wasn't likely to see much money from that either.

    Also rumours of the board not happy to pay Ireland's inflated wages as part of the Milner deal, so all those combined would explain MON walking out.
