What I'm reading - October 7, 2015

I do love this photo.

First, the fantasy tips:

FPL Scout Extra: Chips should be held despite Aguero heroics

Hopefully, you don't have any of these players in your fantasy side:

The Premier League's underperforming (but undropped) players

Of course there's a lot more about Jurgen Klopp to Liverpool. Today's trend is pragmatic, leaning towards pessimistic. Yes, he's a great manager, but what about the players and what about the boardroom?

New approach needs to follow new manager at Liverpool

Finally, ESPN FC has an interesting, side-by-side look at the Milan clubs.

Roberto Mancini has rebuilt Inter into a throwback side all about athleticism

AC Milan are in crisis again despite summer transfers and a new coach

I'm intrigued by the notion of Inter "zigging" when others are all "zagging". Are we seeing a return of the colossus midfielder? The Patrick Viera, Roy Keane type? Arturo Vidal... Nemanja Matic... Paul Pogba... Blaise Matuidi... Moussa Sissoko...

Wow, the French are stocked in the middle of the park! Throw in Yohan Cabaye and Morgan Schneiderlin for good measure and you're looking at a collection of players that would be the envy of any manager - international or club.

Kun You Believe It?

One of the longest running transfer sagas of the last few years is finally over.  Sergio "Kun" Aguero is officially a Manchester City player as of today.  How does "son-in-law-of-Maradona" fit into the Citeh squad and more importantly your fantasy team? Here's the rundown:

Dejan Stankovic wonder goal

You can't be late to an Inter Milan match these days without missing something incredible. This past weekend it was an early scrambled goal from Pato and AC Milan and yesterday... well, yesterday there was this:

Maicon's Juggling and Vollied Goal

Watching this makes me happy.

... and that's saying something on a day when Gareth Bale made a mockery of my team selection and has left me dreading the next two match days.

Worlds Collide

This is just too funny. From Chad OchoCinco's Twitter stream:
  1. Damn they tall ass hell, I am 6"2 and they are towering over me, taking a picture with the legend, Jose Marino
  2. http://twitpic.com/ahfmw - Ibrahimovic, best player on Inter Milan
  3. http://twitpic.com/ahfkg - Materazzi, headed butted by Zidane in the World Cup Final
  4. Getting ready to practice with the Inter Milan soccer team.
  5. For those who like soccer, just saw Ibrahimovic and Materrazzi of Inter Milan soccer team, there at UCLA.
I can only assume he means "Jose Mourinho". If he posts the picture, I'll be sure to update.

HA!
  1. My bad on the name, Mourinho

I'm love when this stuff happens. Reminds me of when David James trained with the Miami Dolphins. Any exposure that football/soccer gets in the States is a good thing, in my opinion. But the meeting of America's top athletes with the world's best athletes bring to mind this:  I've long held the notion that we won't be a world soccer (sorry, football) power until our best athletes choose the sport over football, baseball, basketball, etc. Not even our best athletes but certainly taller and stronger ones than Landon Donovan or DeMarcus Beasley.  For now, I can just dream of Dwight Howard instead of Tim Howard in net (not really, Tim!), Brian Urlacher at center half; Larry Fitzgerald on the wing feeding crosses into LeBron James, and Troy Polamalu in the Makelele/Marcos Senna role.

Chelsea confirm Crespo's Inter stay

Hernan Crespo
Argentina striker Hernan Crespo will stay at Italian champions Internazionale after Chelsea confirmed that they would not be recalling him.

Crespo, 31, joined Inter from Chelsea on a two-year loan deal, but the Premiership side had the option to recall the former Parma, Lazio and Milan striker.

But Crespo had always insisted that he and his family wanted to stay in Italy and the agreement to continue the loan comes as no surprise. The confirmation came in a fax sent from the London club to Inter's head office.
So Chelsea still need to buy themselves (and fantasy managers) a new world-class striker. Any takers?
