The new guys will obviously be important in getting you to a few premium proven commodities: Koscielny, Chamakh and Silva are the only three obvious ones who are in the system so far but I'm sure Citeh will contribute one or two more options before the season starts. All we have to do is figure out who Citeh will start in central defence - Toure? Lescott? Boateng? Onuoha? Richards? (I'd assume Toure and Boateng but who knows really).
Here are some other interesting notes from my first pass through the prices:
- MPet was the first guy on my team sheet - not sure how he and MTay will work together but Coyle will find a way and MPet will be a bargain at just over 9
- Joe Cole is pretty cheap and while I still don't like the move for LIV if he can replicate or improve upon Maxi's production from late last season (not unrealistic) and stay healthy, he's a solid investment because Woy will be motivated to start him from the beginning of the season;
- ManYoo have a pretty soft schedule in the first few weeks so I'm looking for ways to clear budget for Rooney and EvdS for sure and maybe one or two others;
- Based on pre-season performances, I'm REALLY hoping that Cleverly from ManYoo gets loaned out somewhere that he'll start regularly - potential-wise I see him as an O'Hara-like fantasy prospect if he's playing regularly;
- If ACole gets injured and/or gets his transfer to Real Madrid then everyone should take note that Yahoo! has (rightly) listed Zhirkov as a defender this year (and he's cheap, also rightly);
- Spurs win the award for most over-priced roster - combine that with their opening match vs. Citeh and you can probably ignore them altogether for your opening day roster unless they bring someone big in - Keane, PVC, and Sea-Bass are the only players that COULD represent value and none of them are guaranteed starters;
Cheers - Neal
Are you fairly confident that Koscielny will be a starter from the get go? Also, what about Bosingwa (6.70)? Is he back to being the preferred right back?
ReplyDeleteAgree on Spurs being the most expensive team so far but there's definitely a bargain on Bale @13.xx as he is once again, thanks to Yahoo!, listed as a middie.
ReplyDeleteAlso I have considered Rafael Da Silva to partner Bale, I saw him vs. the MLS Stars yesterday and he was very impressive...my third defender might be Boateng, pending on him starting for sure of course.
ReplyDeleteAll the reports have Kocielny as the starter from day one, and he's started 2 of the 3 preseason matches so far. Plus Djourou picked up a hamstring injury in the last match. As of right now, Arsenal only have 3 central defenders in their 25.
ReplyDeleteHowever, there are lots of rumours of Serdar Tasci from Stuttgart being Wenger's next purchase. I've seen him play before, and he's very good. So if he comes in there's no guaranties.
@Saul - Think you meant to say that Bale is listed as a defender. Rafael looked good (against MLS level defending), but big rotation risk with O'Shea & G.Neville. The ManU youngsters certainly looked really sharp, that Cleverly goal was top notch (dare I say clever?)
ReplyDelete@Bean - Yes i did, thanks for the correction.
ReplyDeleteI don't have access to be able to watch the Championship. Any good bargains on the new teams just promoted?
ReplyDeleteBarnyard
Bale looking like a beast, Cudiccini looking sloppy. Villareal 3- Tottenham 1.
ReplyDeleteI guess Neal/Jeremy had mentioned this before... but it would be intresting to see who Chelsea plays as GK considering Cech is injured and first game is home vs. WBA
ReplyDelete@Anon, check out Blackpool's Charlie Adam, or maybe one of Guthrie or Nolan from Newcastle.
ReplyDeleteI hate opening week...always make terrible picks. Too difficult to pick the match ups (newly promoted teams always play well on the first couple of games, esp home games) and too tempting to pick players who you think will be good over the season, as opposed to good for the first week.
ReplyDeleteHi N & J
ReplyDeleteHave you got a Blog league up & running that I could join?
If so, can you reply with the name & pword
Thanks
A hopeful fantasy football player
@Anon,Jeremy - or Routledge (newcastle one, think he's been on set piece duty?), Boselli (been scoring preseason, good matchup)
ReplyDelete@Josh - I would agree with the newly promoted teams coming fast and strong out of the gates, seems there's always lots of surprises in the opening weeks.
does anyone know who alex's replacement will be at chelsea?
ReplyDeleteCarvalho.
ReplyDeleteWill the Captain actually play in the opening?
ReplyDeleteAny news on injury?
-pupus-
@pupus, check out this post:
ReplyDeleteWigan take Al Habsi on loan
Isn't Carvalho heading to Madrid?
ReplyDeleteHilario in goal for Chelsea I think, Turnbull has been killing his chances.
@Jeremy, Do you think starting Koscielny is necessary given they are @Liverpool to open the campaign? Same sentinment for Boateng and Kolarov for City.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't we either BD (if big game) or wait for the next week where they presumably could drop in price given the match-up?
You guys doing beat the bloggers again?
ReplyDeleteSteve
We will do BtB groups. Give us a few days to get organized.
ReplyDeleteKoscielny and Boateng are good options, but only Kolarov is a must have for me. That said, you could certainly go into the season with that defensive three and find yourself set for the year.
Carvalho is linked to Madrid, but until he flies out...
random but kuyt has finally been switched to a middie, which makes him more appealing when liverpool plays weaker sides..and hes a better FF player than he is in real life
ReplyDeleteNice catch, Carefree.
