Arsenal are on the verge of completing a £10million deal for French defender Laurent Koscielny from Lorient.Another summer, another £10million investment in a central defender. If this one turns out half as well as the Vermaelen signing, then Gooners and fantasy managers alike will be very, very happy.
Arsene Wenger has tracked the 24-year-old for some time, as Koscielny, who is also eligible to play for Poland, impressed in the French domestic league.
The Gunners boss is in need of cover at the back, with Sol Campbell mulling over a new one-year deal and fellow veterans William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre set to leave after the end of their contracts.

With Campbell and Gallas on the way out doesn't seem like he's going to have much competition for the starting spot. Any recent talk on the goalkeeper front to help with the clean sheets?
ReplyDeletehe is actually taller 186-178cm or 6'2"-5'-11", than vermealen and 3kg thicker. i only saw him play 3 times and really wasn't watching him. that was before i knew he was to be the latest gunner. i had him in my fantasy league for more than half the year. bought him for 3.13 around december and lorient went on a tear. he was my best defender, by far. he seemed to get at least 4 or 5 without a shutout and over 10 with one. he had lots of defensive blocks, a number of crosses, 1 assist and 3 goals. it would be nice if vermaelen and koscielny get 7 goals, each, again this year. i had thought about getting vermaelen, at the beginning of the year, as my 1 expensive defender, but i might go with koscielny and gareth bale.
ReplyDeletecan you imagine how formidable the middle of the park would be, if arsene wenger, was able to put out, akinfeev, vermaelen, koscielny, melo, song, fabregas (gourcuff), oezil, and van persie. this spine would win every game, again.
ReplyDeletei think that two longtime targets for wenger have gone down in price after the world cup, melo and gourcuff. melo, who i read today is being offered in a swap for clichy. gourcuff's performances probably dropped 8-10 million of his price tag.
another longtime target, van der weil, should have been bought before the world cup. now real madrid is interested, so watch the price skyrocket.
Greginho, Neal is reading your post and drooling.
ReplyDeleteyou can too jeremy!
ReplyDeletehow about Eduardo? (keeper)

also coentrao in place of clichy if he goes? he could be a great fantasy signing if he comes to the premier league.
nevermind, Eduardo signed with Genoa
ReplyDeletesince people seem to be responding here. how does everyone feel about schwarzer being the make shift goalie for one or two years?
ReplyDeleteI'm still pushing for them to sign Benaglio.
