Holden out for Six Months

Bolton Wanderers midfielder Stuart Holden will be sidelined for six months with a knee injury meaning the U.S. international will miss June's CONCACAF Gold Cup, the Premier League club said on Monday.

Holden, 25, sustained a deep cut in Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Manchester United after a tackle that defender Jonny Evans was shown a red card for.

This season, six months might mean two weeks. Here's hoping as Holden has been a real joy to watch in Bolton's midfield. Expectations of what he could do for the USA at the international level were also rising and this is just another set-back on his way to real prominence. Get well soon!

Just had a sincere phone call from Jonny Evans wishing me the best in my recovery, def wasn't intentional, just unfortunate part of the gameless than a minute ago via ÜberSocial

It's almost as if Holden is an actual adult, unlike Nani who true to form petulantly refused an apology and urged his club to moan about it in the press. Even though he was back in training in less than a week, we haven't heard much from him over the horror of this tackle and Holden's six month out. I can't imagine why. More Holdens, fewer Nanis.

  3. remember how much fuss sir alex made over carra's tackle on nani, yet a player is actually out for a long period of time, due to a horrible tackle from one of his own, but ferguson doesn't have one bit of concern for this lad. it is as if he is the don or something.

Hate to see the lad get another injury. It's been great to see a young American playing so well. All the best!

You know what's almost as painful as a six month knee injury? Having to wait two weeks until the next fantasy football weekend!

  6. Holden's posting is just pure class. What sportsmanship and maturity from a guy who just sustained a season-ending injury. Makes me proud to be an American. Kudos to Evans for making the phone call as well.

Tough break with his 2nd major injury in the past 2 years. I'll always wonder if WC2010 would have gone differently with Stu fully healthy and likely keeping Rico Clark out of the lineup...

Hopefully he is back early next season and is as good as ever.

If any player deserves to be out for 6 months, its Nani. The only thing comes close in terms of petulance is another portuguese called Nani, doubt if they're really portuguese because the best example of a real professional is Luis Figo.
