Knee surgery rules Torres out for rest of season

Fernando Torres will miss the remainder of the season for Liverpool due to knee surgery, and his participation in the World Cup finals must be in some doubt as his club expect him to be sidelined for six weeks.

Torres, who previously underwent knee surgery in January, missed Liverpool's 0-0 draw with Fulham last weekend due to the problem and the striker will go under the knife on Sunday night after being seen by a specialist.

Get in while the barn door is open.

Meanwhile,
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti will allow Didier Drogba to decide whether he is fit enough to play on this season.

The Ivorian striker is currently nursing a groin injury, and may yet require surgery in order to cure the ailment.

He was in obvious discomfort throughout the Blues' 2-1 defeat at local rivals Tottenham on Sunday, but was unable to be replaced in the second half as Ancelotti had used all of his substitutes.

Drogba is now in danger of inflaming the problem and ruling himself out of action for a prolonged period of time.

@Neal + Jeremy: Are we sure this automatically means Ngog will get the nod? Truthfully as a very disappointed Liverpool fan, I'd like to see a line up of Kuyt up top, Gerrard in support, Maxi + Babel on wings, Mascherano + Aquilani at central, Agger at LB, Carrahger, Kygr, Johnson at RB, Reina. Meaning no room for Ngog (who lets be honest has missed some horrific sitters this season and at important times no less).

As for your team, Arsenal being out of the title race is certainly tough, but look forward to playing Champions League next year, I'll have to settle for Europa and an injured Torres.

Don't know if this is any indication of the team Rafa will field the rest of the season but:

Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Agger, Maxi, Gerrard, Lucas, Benayoun, Kuyt, Ngog. Subs: Cavalieri, Aquilani, Babel, Mascherano, Degen, El Zhar, Ayala.

I'm willing to take a gamble on N'Gog. I think he's got a lot of potential and could break out for the end of the season. He makes excellent runs. If he improves his finishing he will be dangerous.

  4. @Kellz, N'gog with the start and the goal. Well, a goal. Not saying he's a great bet... but on the barn door maybe worth grabbing the option.

N'Gog goal per min ratio is pretty decent. i think(unverified) below 200 min per league goal. As a secondary[aka benched] striker , that should be good enough.
