Long rumoured, announced today.
Carlos Tevez has agreed his move to Manchester City subject to a medical, the club have announced. It sure will be interesting to see how Hughes makes this work. Before this announcement it seems clear that Citeh would line up with Roque Santa Cruz as a lone striker, supported by Robinho, Stephen Ireland, and Shaun Wright-Phillips. Throw in Barry and de Jong holding in front of a back four and you have the makings of a very strong side that really would fit the strengths of their players. Now you have to figure that Carlos Tevez is a starter and Citeh are lining up in a more traditional 4-4-2. However, I don't know that Robinho is a traditional left-wing or that with he and SWP on the flanks that they don't need a more defensive minded midfielder than Barry shielding the back line.
The 25-year-old has agreed personal terms with the club and will sign a five-year contract. He will jet out to South Africa after his medical to join his new team-mates on their pre-season tour, where he will wear the number 32 shirt.
"It is terrific news," Mark Hughes said. "Carlos is an international player of the highest class who possesses all the attributes that will help drive this club forward."
It will be very interesting to watch this grand experiment take place. I don't even think that in Chelsea's Roman pomp that there was this much insanity around any club. As a fantasy manager, however, I am sad to see what looked like a solid and regular formation be thrown back into the unknown. Or maybe it's not unknown, re-reading what I just wrote. Maybe it just doesn't strike me as as good. But for fantasy purposes, maybe it's just another reasonably priced attacking option in the light blue of Manchester City.
